Additional Programs

English as an Additional Language

Australia is becoming an increasingly multicultural country. Mont Albert Primary School is made up of learners who come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

The goals for students learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) are the same as those for native speakers, but their pathway to these goals is different. They benefit from explicit English language teaching and extra time, support and exposure to English.

To address this need, some students at Mont Albert Primary School attend EAL sessions. Through these sessions we aim to provide students with the opportunity to achieve success in learning English in order to progress in all areas of the curriculum.

An integral aspect to the EAL curriculum is ensuring that the cultural and linguistic experiences of all children are valued and individual differences are catered for.

MiniLit and MacqLit Reading Intervention

Our reading intervention program (incorporating MiniLit and MacqLit) has been developed by MultiLit, a research-based initiative of Macquarie University. MultiLit has been producing reading programs for over 20 years.

MinitLit
Minilit is a special teaching program designed for students in Years 1 and 2 who are struggling to learn to read. The program is offered in small groups of four children, for 45 minutes, four days a week.

MacqLit
MacqLit is a reading program for children in Year 3 and above who need some help with their reading. It takes place in groups of four students, for 45 minutes, four days a week.
