Extracurricular

Junior School Council (JSC)

The Junior School Council (JSC) at Mont Albert Primary, an active group that provides students with a voice. The representatives of the council are student elected and gather ideas from their peers to enact change within the school. Led by the school captains, the council utilises these ideas and works together to make changes in the school. Our progress and achievements can be followed within the school bulletin and assemblies.

Environmental Action Group (EAG)

The Environmental Action Group (EAG) at Mont Albert Primary, is active in creating engaging ways to bring awareness to sustainable practises within the school grounds, as well as the impacts our choices make upon the wider community. The team endeavours to model and inspire the school community through maintaining its vegetable and herb gardens, tree planting days, environmental events and other sustainable activities. Our progress and achievements can be followed within the school bulletin and assemblies.

Science Club

Our Science Club gives students the opportunity to participate in hands-on science experiments, backed up with an explanation of the science behind what they are doing.

To ensure activities are well targeted and engaging, we offer Science Club to Years 4-6 during Term 2, Years 2 and 3 during Term 3, and Year 1 and Foundation during Term 4.

Chess Club

Our Chess Club is a weekly whole school program offered to all students from Years 1-6 which aims to develop an interest in the game of Chess whilst encouraging healthy competition where students learn to play fairly. It allows students to develop mental strategies for problem solving and higher order thinking skills whilst having fun playing an educational game.

Prior experience is not necessary as our highly trained Chess tutors are able to work with students of all abilities. We currently have 4 different chess groups where the students are able to play chess in a friendly and encouraging environment with others of similar ability.

The decision to join our chess club is a commitment where students are expected to attend each Thursday for the duration of lunchtime. The program takes place in the break out area of the senior school building.

Lego Club

Lego club is offered to all students from Foundation to Year 6. It occurs on a weekly basis over a lunchtime with students completing weekly challenges encouraging a variety of design and creative skills. Students are encouraged to work collaboratively with others to develop interactive, inventive and imaginative designs to share with the whole group at the end of each session.

Calm Colouring Club

This club provides a structured and supervised environment for children who prefer a calmer alternative to active play. Colouring is a simple but powerful activity. It supports focus, fine motor development and creativity, while also helping students regulate their emotions and return to class feeling settled and ready to learn.
The club is particularly supportive for students who may find the playground overwhelming, are building confidence in social settings, or simply enjoy quiet activities. It promotes inclusion by valuing different personalities and preferences, ensuring every child has a space where they feel comfortable and connected.
By offering choice during lunchtime, we support student wellbeing and help create a balanced school experience. The Calm Colouring Club reflects our commitment to nurturing not only academic growth, but also emotional wellbeing and a positive school culture.
