Integrating the Year 1s ‘Community’ Inquiry Unit into Visual Arts, we looked at photos of children who live at a dumpsite in the Philippines and India. These children are very poor and it presented a different community to the one of our students. To make a small difference to these children’s lives, our Year 1 students painted a cat face (inspired by artist Laurel Burch) on a calico bag to give to a child in the Philippines. Thanks to the Year 1 teachers who organised their class to write a letter from each student to go inside their bag and also to Mr Owen who was working with these children in the Philippines during the school holidays and kindly handed out these bags to the children. Fabulous effort Year 1s, very inspiring!

It was with great pleasure that I attended the Victorian School Sports Awards Presentation Ceremony on Tuesday 10th March 2015 where past student, Luca Tevere, was presented with an award for his outstanding achievement in Soccer as a member of the Under 12 Boys School Sports Victoria Soccer State Team last year. Luca's family are very proud of Luca's achievements, as too are we here at Mont Albert. Sharon Saitlik
Congratulations to our 2015 School Captains: Charli Williams and Richard Wang
I am thrilled to be the female School Captain for 2015. When my name was announced a rush of excitement hit me. I have loved MAPS since Day 1, so it is an honour to be a doing the job I have always wanted in my final year. I will be a comitted and enthusiastic leader for you all. I am open to ideas and I plan to make a difference in my own way.
Thanks for the opportunity. 2015 will be a great year and lots of fun!
Being elected as Mont Albert Primary's School Captain for 2015 is an absolute honour. I feel very excited to take assemblies, welcome Principals from Australia and around the world, and introduce new families and guardians to our wonderful school to show them what Mont Albert Primary has to offer. I understand that this is a very important role to take on, but I believe that by putting in 100%, things can be done, I'm sure Mrs Saitlik and staff members will guide Charli and I through any difficulties that we have throughout the year.
I think Charli and I, along with the House and Vice Captains, will work together very well and we will make a terrific team. I will do whatever it takes to make this school the best school it can be. I am really looking forward to 2015. It will be an awesome year!

2014 Macintosh Award Recipient
Last week, Sharon attended a special ceremony where they announced the winner of the 2014 John Laing Awards. John Laing is a former Tasmanian school principal who worked for Principals Australia Institute. His passionate belief and energy were the driving force behind the first cross-sectoral professional learning projects for all school leaders in Australia.
To no surprise for those that work with Sharon, she was successful in being awarded this prestigious award. The award recognises Sharon’s efforts for making an exceptional contribution to school leadership and to the professional development of her peers. Congratulations Sharon from all of the community of Mont Albert Primary School. We are certainly indeed very fortunate and privileged to have you working at our school.
